but I might make an exception for this one. Ttyymmm and other aviation geeks, you have to watch this propeller plane coming from Sylt landing in Düsseldorf during storm “Friederike” yesterday. I think the pilot brought the plane down solely with the weight of his massive balls.

Clapping on landing is ok

They might have been too busy throwing up actually

ill go ahead and assume they handed out free underwear to anyone leaving that plane..... yikes
(also as far as frowning on a plane goes... you should have seen the faces of the people near us when shortly after take off and babbling all exitedly about getting in to the air my daughter came out with hope it goes down again!)

Ugh. I hate working during storms. Two or three weeks ago a Polish Ducato was passing me and just in that moment a strong Windböe (gust?) hit from the side. He came pretty damn close to being swept into me. Scary shit.

Honestly, rather than clapping I think I’d be pretty pissed he tried. Good bit of flying, but the decision does not seem like a good one.

It’s annoying. And landing is not some amazing complicated thing (in most situations). Still vastly better than people who clap at the end of movies.

Running low on fuel? That storm was all over that region of Europe so it wasn’t like he had much choice.

I’ve seen this done before in a larger plane. You better believe we all clapped.
On another landing we had a serious code brown moment when a wing almost hit the ground and the pilot saved it. We all screamed and cheered.

Picked a car for the March meet, yet?

“If you don’t come downstairs right now I will make you”

He put it down like a boss. Damn good job.

Oh, I loathe people who clap after movies.

And he pretty much greased it.

I mean, it’s possible it was the least bad option, but it definitely looks like a bad option.

I’ve somehow never ridden in a Dash 8. Heck, I can’t even remember the last time I was in any sort of turboprop aircraft.

Soon. Very soon. A low km 99 NISSAN Primera popped up for sale near me. Maybe I’ll risk a look.

I’m with facw on this one. I don’t think he had any business attempting that landing. Maybe he had no other options. It ended well, but that was nuts.

At first I was like “I’ve seen lots of crab walk landings”. NOPE. NO. NO. NO. Fuck that shit. All those people on that plane thought they were going to die, with the possible exception of the pilot, who was like “I got this”. Forget clapping, buy that man a fifth of the finest whiskey.

Know of any way we could find out? I’m curious now. Thats a “I’m never getting in an airplane again” kind of landing, so if the pilot didn’t have to land like that, he definitely shouldn’t have.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. All in all, the pilot did a fine job in very difficult conditions. There has been extremely bad weather of late all over Europe, so he may have had no better options. I can’t find any other info on the internets.

The pilot was a woman.
